From February to May, 2015, Chris Brubeck served as Artist-in-Residence with your New Haven Symphony Orchestra.  Brubeck moved Connecticut audiences with his genre-bending music, soulful playing, inspired teaching, and powerful techniques for keeping classical music relevant in the 21st century.

During the residency, Chris and the NHSO:

  • PERFORMED 12 concerts of American music in 6 cities
  • ENGAGED more than 8,000 students at Young People’s Concerts
  • CHALLENGED a jazz quintet from Guilford High School to prepare a Brubeck world premiere piece written just for them to perform with the NHSO
  • INSTRUCTED students at New Haven’s Wilbur Cross High School during a 5-day in-school residency with the Bands and Chorus
  • PRESENTED workshops for student ensembles at Neighborhood Music School, Educational Center for the Arts, Middletown High School, West Haven High School, and more!
  • DELIGHTED audiences of all ages during community lectures at Tower One/Tower Eash and in partnership with the Yale University Art Gallery
  • INSPIRED a community through genre-bending music, innovative performances, and relevant educational opportunities

This project was made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts, New Music USA, the Fromm Music Foundation, and many other generous donors.
