The NHSO presents Young People’s Concerts for over 8,000 students across the State of Connecticut each year!
These educational concerts introduce students to musical instruments, genres, and composers. The NHSO travels to Milford, Seymour, Shelton, and Woodstock to present performances in partnership with each school district. We always present the annual Young People’s Concert for the Greater New Haven community at Woolsey Hall, and we invite you to join us.
“Introduction to the Orchestra”
Tuesday, March 28 | 10 am & 12 noon | Woolsey Hall, New Haven
This year’s program highlights each of the orchestra’s sections individually, and then captures our awe-inspiring sounds with two full orchestral pieces:
Aaron Copland, Fanfare for the Common Man (brass and percussion)
Frank Bridge, Sally in our Alley (strings)
Leos Janacek, Mladi, I. Allegro (woodwind sextet)
Charles Ives, Variations on “America” (full orchestra)
Aaron Copland, Lincoln Portrait (full orchestra + narrator)
