New Haven, CT November 11, 2010: The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) is proud to announce the first ever Community Orchestra Weekend, to be held March 25-27, 2011 in New Haven, CT.

The NHSO Community Orchestra Weekend will bring together amateur musicians from across the Northeast to work with world-renowned conductor William Boughton and members of the NHSO. The orchestra will perform an ambitious program of music that goes beyond standard community orchestra repertoire to challenge participants’ instrument technique and overall musicianship. After intensive rehearsals the weekend ends with a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 1, on March 27, 2:00pm in New Haven.

The NHSO is looking for 100 amateur musicians to participate. Participants must already perform with a community orchestra and/or band to be considered for this event. Lodging options will be available to participants traveling to the event as needed. A fee of $150 is required to participate.

In addition to rehearsals and performances, the weekend will create camaraderie and an exchange of ideas between adult amateur musicians from different musical organizations. A guided tour of Yale University, a New Haven Pizza Night, and visits to the Collection of Musical Instruments and the Beinecke Library at Yale are all planned.

Interested applicants are asked to complete a registration form which can be found under the Education tab on the NHSO website www.newhavensymphony.org. A fee of $150 is required to participate.
