In 2009 the NHSO and the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library of Yale University announced the beginning of the William Walton Project, an exciting collaboration of which include concerts, broadcasts, lectures, and recordings of English composer Sir William Walton’s works. This is the largest concentration of performances in one place anywhere in the world of Walton’s music.
The Beinecke houses the Frederick R. Koch Collection of Walton’s Music, which accounts for approximately 98% of Walton’s original manuscripts, serving as the primary source for the Project.
The project’s Artistic Director William Boughton and the NHSO have released the first and second of a set of three CDs on the life and music of Walton, produced in conjunction with Nimbus Records. The first CD, featuring Walton’s Violin Concerto with Kurt Nikkanen and his Symphony No. 1 was released world-wide in 2010. The second CD, featuring Walton’s Viola Concerto with Roberto Diaz and his Symphony No. 2 was released in 2014. Purchase your copy today or stream the recordings on Spotify.
