New Haven Symphony Orchestra is Headed for Hollywood

NHSO Music Director William Boughton gives actor Scott Cohen some tips on conducting the New Haven Symphony Orchestra on the set of Everybody’s Fine at Woolsey Hall in New Haven yesterday.

June 4, 2008, New Haven, CT: The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) completed two days of filming yesterday in New Haven’s historic Woolsey Hall as part of the upcoming Miramax film Everybody’s Fine directed by Kirk Jones, starring Robert DeNiro, Kate Beckinsale, Drew Barrymore and Sam Rockwell. The film also features an original score by Oscar-winning composer Dario Marianelli.

NHSO Music Director William Boughton was technical advisor and conducting double for actor Scott Cohen who is cast as the orchestra’s conductor in the movie. NHSO Education Director Stephen Collins played a similar role as technical advisor to actor Sam Rockwell who plays a percussionist in the film. Collins also performed the role of NHSO timpanist.

“The NHSO is privileged to have been invited to participate in the film. Not only was this a unique experience for our musicians and conductor, but it creates a sense of pride and accomplishment in the Orchestra for our community and supporters. It is one of several high profile opportunities which will be unveiled over the coming year as the Orchestra celebrates its 115th anniversary season,” noted NHSO Executive Director Natalie Forbes.
