Chronicling the life and death of Jesus Christ, George Frideric Handel’s Messiah is noted for its magnificent power, bringing audiences to their feet with its climactic Hallelujah chorus. Considered Handel’s best known work, Messiah premiered in Dublin in 1742 at a charity benefit concert at the Foundling Hospital, an organization for underprivileged children, which still exists today as The Thomas Coram Foundation.

William Boughton, the tenth Music Director of the NHSO, comes to his new position after more than 25 years as founder and director of the English Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Boughton brings with him a reputation as one of the foremost English conductors of his generation. He has made more than sixty recordings, most under the Nimbus Records label, several having reached top ten on the U.S. charts. Maestro has guest conducted the world’s leading orchestras from San Francisco to Helsinki and has worked with leading soloists on the international circuit, including such artists as Nigel Kennedy, Emmanuel Ax, and Radu Lupu.

Voce was formed in 2006 by a group of singers committed to making excellent music and a difference in the community under the leadership of Artistic Director, Mark Singleton, and Executive Director, Thomas Cooke. Heralded for its exquisite musicianship and fearlessness in programming and performance, Voce has choral works of all periods and styles throughout Connecticut.
