Tuesday • June 18, 2013

New Haven, CT (June 18, 2013): Music on the Green – New Haven’s very own FREE summer concerts series – heats up when the New Haven Symphony Orchestra performs Dueling Divas on Saturday, July 20.  Conductor William Boughton will lead the orchestra, while opera divas Jamilyn Manning-White and Toby Newman launch fireworks of vocal virtuosity, singing familiar tunes from The Marriage of Figaro, Don Giovanni, and Carmen.

Jamilyn Manning-White, a recent graduate of the Yale School of Music, was praised by The New York Times for her “strong, shapely performance” and by The Berkshire Review as “attractive both in voice and appearance, [with] an instinctive grasp of the material.”  Toby Newman is a versatile artist whose work spans the operatic, concert and new music repertoire.  Ms. Newman has won second place in the Rochester Oratorio Society’s Classical Idol vocal competition and first place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing – New York region’s annual vocal competition.

This free concert, presented in partnership with INFO NewHaven and with the generous support of the Helen Roberts Trust, opens at 6:00pm with music from the Mariachi Academy of Connecticut, directed by Evangeline Mendoza Bourgeois.  Grab the family and a picnic basket and join us downtown for an unforgettable summer evening!
