Click here to sign up for the wait list. \nExperience a candlelit performance led by concertmaster David Southorn and featuring NHSO strings while immersed in the beautiful surroundings of New Haven’s historic St. Mary’s Church. The program will create include The Four Seasons\, as composed by three different composers – Astor Piazzolla\, Max Richter\, and Antonio Vivaldi – as well as Mendelssohn’s Sinfonia No. 2 and Bach’s Concerto in C minor featuring NHSO principal oboist Olav van Hezewijk. \nThe Music\n\nFelix Mendelssohn\nSinfonia No. 2 in D major \nJ.S. Bach\nConcerto in C minor for Violin and Oboe \nAntonio Vivaldi\n“L’autunno” from Le quattro stagioni\n(“Autumn” from The Four Seasons) \nAstor Piazzolla\n“Invierno Porteño” from Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas\n(“Winter” from The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires) \nMax Richter\n“Spring” from Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons \nAntonio Vivaldi\n“L’estate” from Le quattro stagioni\n(“Summer” from The Four Seasons) \n\nThe Performers\nNew Haven Symphony Orchestra Strings\nDavid Southorn\, NHSO Concertmaster (Principal Violin)\nOlav van Hezewijk\, NHSO Principal Oboe\n \n\n\nViolinist David Southorn is the NHSO’s “concertmaster” (principal violinist) and for this program he also serves as artistic director. He will play the solo violin lines and conduct the ensemble from his position in the violin section. \nDavid’s recent solo highlights include performances of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the Fremont Symphony\, Aaron Jay Kernis’ AIR with the New Haven Symphony and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the Delaware Symphony where he was lauded by Delaware Arts Info as “nothing less than brilliant … powerful sound; immaculate precision and compelling agility… impeccable phrasing and polished lyricism…a zestful performance.” As a chamber musician he has performed with his award-winning Amphion String Quartet at Alice Tully Hall as members of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s CMS II. The 21-22 season is his 4th year as the Concertmaster of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra. This season marks his 10th year as Concertmaster of the Delaware Symphony and he continues his tenure as Assistant Concertmaster of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra. If seats become available you will be contacted by the box office. \nJoin Wait List\nThere are also tickets remaining for the December 16 performance of Handel’s Messiah at Sacred Heart University’s Community Theatre. You can purchase tickets through the Theatre’s website. \n\n\nWhat to Expect\n\nA concert of instrumental music by a small orchestra conducted by the NHSO’s music director Alasdair Neale. There will be a small (chamber) choir and 4 vocal soloists. The lyrics are in English.\nThe program will run approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes.
