FREE Summer Concerts

Thursday • June 9, 2011

Celebrate summer fun with the hottest ticket in town, the NHSO. This summer, the NHSO is offering two FREE outdoor concerts. Pack your blankets, picnic baskets, and stuffed animals, and head on down to the New Haven Green.

AQUATIC DANCES

The fun starts Saturday, June 18 when the NHSO and Elm City Dance Collective (ECDC) present Aquatic Dances at 12:35pm on the Elm Street Stage, New Haven Green as part of the International Festival of Arts and Ideas. Aquatic Dances is a cutting edge contemporary dance piece depicting the amazing aquatic life at Mystic Aquarium. ECDC dancers will creatively dive, float, and swim their way through the music of Vivaldi, Bach, Jeremy Cohen, and Philip Glass.

PETER’S CARNIVAL

Step right up! The NHSO, Music Director William Boughton, and narrators extraordinaire Michael Boudewyns and Sara Valentine, will dazzle you with a delightful rendition of Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf and Saint-Saëns’ beloved Carnival of the Animals in Peter’s Carnival, Saturday, July 9, 7:00pm, New Haven Green (rain location: Hillhouse High School Auditorium). Come one and all to a musical carnival complete with wolves, lions, and swans, “Oh, my!” The opening act begins at 6:00pm. Peter’s Carnival is part of Music on the Green presented by Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven.

Be sure to bring your favorite stuffed animal for the Stuffed Animal Parade! Children will also be able to explore our instrument petting zoo and try out a violin, clarinet, or trumpet.

Aquatic Dances is made possible through the generous support of the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism. Peter’s Carnival is made possible through a generous grant from the Helen Roberts Trust.
