Visitor FAQ

  • How do I buy tickets for the New Haven Symphony Orchestra?

You can purchase tickets online through our official website, by clicking here by phone (203) 693-1486, or at the venue box office on the day of the concert (subject to availability). When buying online, you’ll be able to choose your seats, review pricing options, and see which concerts still have good availability. We recommend purchasing early for popular events, as many concerts do sell out.

  • What are the ticket prices, and are discounts available?

Ticket prices vary by performance and seating section, but we offer options for many budgets. NHSO provides discounted tickets for students, children, and select community groups. Subscription packages allow you to save on multiple concerts throughout the season, and some events include free or reduced-price tickets for youth. To learn more visit our Ticket & Box Office page.

  • Where does the New Haven Symphony Orchestra perform?

NHSO performs at multiple venues throughout New Haven and surrounding communities, including Woolsey Hall, Lyman Center and additional partner venues across the region. Each venue page includes parking information, directions, seating charts, and accessibility details. Be sure to confirm your concert’s location before you arrive.

  • Is there parking available at NHSO concert venues?

Most of our venues offer nearby public parking garages or surface lots, and some have limited onsite parking. We recommend arriving early if you plan to park, as downtown garages can fill quickly before popular performances. Venue-specific parking instructions are provided on the event details page and in your confirmation email.

  • What types of concerts does NHSO offer?

Our seasons include a wide range of programming such as classical masterworks, pops and crossover concerts that blend orchestral music with jazz, film scores, folk, and more, family concerts that are designed for younger listeners, along with holiday, community, and special events throughout the year.

Check out our Concert Calendar to find an event that sounds right for you.

  • How early should I arrive, and what happens if I’m running late?

Doors typically open 30–60 minutes before the performance. Arriving early allows time for parking, finding your seat, and exploring the venue. If you arrive after the concert has begun, ushers will seat you during an appropriate pause in the performance to minimize disruption.

  • Are concerts accessible for visitors with disabilities?

Yes! Our venues offer a variety of accessibility services including wheelchair-accessible seating, ramps or elevators, accessible restrooms, and reserved companion seating. Some locations also provide assistive listening devices. If you have specific needs, we recommend contacting us in advance so we can ensure the best possible experience.

  • Can I bring kids to an NHSO concert?

Absolutely! Our concerts welcome young listeners, and we also host special family-friendly events throughout the season. Discounted youth and student tickets are available for most performances. With KidTix, kids under 18 are free with the purchase of an adult ticket. Additional child tickets are $10.

Go to our Ticket & Box Office page to learn more.

  • How long is a typical concert?

Most NHSO concerts last between 90 minutes and 2 hours, including a 15–20 minute intermission. Family concerts and special programs may run slightly shorter. Exact run times are listed on individual event pages.

  • Who leads the New Haven Symphony Orchestra?

The New Haven Symphony Orchestra is led by Music Director Perry So, whose artistic vision guides our programming, community engagement, and commissions of new work. You can learn more about his background, guest conductors, and the musicians of the orchestra on our Artistic Leadership page.

  • Does the NHSO offer education or community programs?

Yes! NHSO is deeply committed to music education and community engagement. We partner with local schools, offer youth concerts and in-school programs, host workshops and residencies, and support emerging artists through fellowships and educational opportunities. Many of these programs are free or low cost for participants. Check out our Concert Calendar for any upcoming events.

  • What should I expect at my first symphony concert?

Expect a warm welcome, an inspiring performance, and a relaxed environment. You’ll be delighted world-class musicians perform live, enjoy program notes or pre-concert talks that provide context and challenge your thinking, and experience the unique connection of sharing music with your community.
