Florence Price, the first African American female composer to have a symphonic work performed by a major national orchestra, is often compared musically to Antonin Dvorak, who also employed sweeping melodies and sampled African American and Native American music. Join the New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s harmony Quartet for music featuring these two composers, as well as works by Samuel Coleridge Taylor. Dive deeper into the effect of race on the history of classical music with an interactive audience talk-back during the concert. The Orchid Cafe will cater appetizers at a post-concert reception.
