Chelsea Tipton To Lead NHSO in Christmas Carols and Season Favorites

Tuesday • December 1, 2015

The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) will “Deck the Halls” of concert venues across Connecticut with Christmas carols and seasonal favorites at the 2015 Holiday Extravaganza Saturday, December 12 at 2:30pm at Hamden Middle School; Sunday, December 13 at 3:00pm at Shelton Intermediate School; Thursday, December 17 at 7:30pm at Woolsey Hall in New Haven; and Sunday, December 20 at 3:00pm at the Performing Arts Center at Middletown High School. NHSO Principal Pops Conductor Chelsea Tipton will lead the NHSO and guest baritone soloist Joshua Jeremiah in all four performances.

The Christmas season has inspired composers for centuries; this festive concert program will include excerpts from classical Christmas works including Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Handel’s Messiah, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s Christmas Eve. The program will also include such contemporary holiday favorites as Sleigh Ride, Have a Holly Jolly Christmas, and a Christmas Carol sing-along.

Once again the NHSO will be partnering with the Community Soup Kitchen (CSK) to help feed the hungry this holiday season. Proceeds from the December 17 performance at Woolsey Hall will be donated to CSK. Additionally, the NHSO will host a special symphony supper at Anna Liffey’s in downtown New Haven prior to the December 17 concert. Dinner is $40 and all proceeds will be donated to CSK. Reservations can be made by emailing Development@NewHavenSymphony.org.

Editors Please Note: The NHSO has received notice from the North Pole that Santa Claus will be in the lobby at both the Thursday, December 17 performance at Woolsey Hall and the Sunday, December 20 performance at Middletown High School. Mr. Claus, a huge classical music fan, says, “It has been my experience that children who attend Symphony concerts are almost never on my naughty list!”

American conductor Chelsea Tipton, II has won over audiences and critics alike with his vibrant musicality, accessibility, versatility and extraordinary commitment to education. As a sought after guest conductor, Chelsea has appeared with numerous major orchestras in the U.S., including Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburg, Houston and Atlanta, among others.
