LOVE IS IN THE AIR! NHSO TO PERFORM ROMANTIC FRENCH MUSIC BY BIZET, RAVEL, BERLIOZ & CANTELOUBE FEBRUARY 19
Valentine’s Program to Feature Yale Opera Alumna Soprano Amanda Hall
The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a program of romantic French music at Parfum de la Nuit on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 7:30pm in Woolsey Hall. Led by guest conductor Ransom Wilson, the program will include Bizet’s Suite from Carmen, Ravel’s Valses Nobles et Sentimentales, Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture, and Canteloube’s Songs of the Auvergne featuring Yale Opera Alumna soprano Amanda Hall.
NHSO Music Director William Boughton says, “Our guest conductor Ransom Wilson is a familiar face in New Haven both at Yale School of Music and the NHSO. As one of the world’s leading exponents of the flute, but not so widely known as a conductor, Ransom Wilson studied in France and his affinity and knowledge of French music will make an evening of French music a memorable occasion.”
Ransom Wilson has long been recognized internationally as one of the greatest flutists of his generation and now has added a remarkable conducting career to his repertoire. He founded Solisti New York orchestra in 1981, with which he appeared as conductor in hundreds of concerts and recordings. More recently he has conducted two productions at the New York City Opera. Since 2006 he has been a member of the musical staff at the Metropolitan Opera. For more information on Ransom Wilson, visit www.ransomwilson.com.
Beloved by Connecticut audiences, rising opera star Amanda Hall has performed across the globe with Hawaii Opera Theater, Polish National Radio Orchestra, New York City Opera, as well as locally with the NHSO, Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and Opera Theater of Connecticut. Most recently, she has been featured on the stages of Anchorage Opera, Western Plains Opera, and Opera Grand Rapids. She is a graduate of the Opera Program at the Yale School of Music and holds a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Southern California.
To celebrate the romance of this Valentine’s Day inspired program, the NHSO will be hosting a “New Haven is for Lovers” ticket giveaway contest on Facebook.
