Symphony Donates Proceeds from December 18 Performance of Handel’s Messiah Sponsored by Bank of America
The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) is proud to announce that it has donated proceeds from its December 18 performance of Handel’s Messiah to the Community Soup Kitchen of New Haven. These funds, totaling over $8000, were raised through concert ticket sales, a co-presented Symphony Supper at the Community Soup Kitchen prior to the performance, and in conjunction with program support from the Bank of America.
The NHSO has supported the Community Soup Kitchen for several seasons and was the recipient of the soup kitchen’s “Silver Ladle” award in 2013. NHSO board member Linda Astmann says, “The NHSO is committed to the Orchestras Feeding America mission, affirming that orchestras are vital to their communities beyond providing exemplary music. Our CSK collaboration is gratifying and important beyond hunger relief; CSK provides meals, warm winter clothing, flu shots and access to health, mental health and employment support services. Indeed we’re very proud of this ongoing partnership.” For more information about the Community Soup Kitchen, visit www.csknewhaven.org.
NHSO Music Director William Boughton says, “We see time and time again how powerful music can be as a tool for social change; the NHSO’s ongoing relationship with the Community Soup Kitchen is a perfect example of the direct impact our orchestra has on the New Haven community. We are so proud to support the Community Soup Kitchen and look forward to working with them for many years to come.”
Bank of America’s Southern Connecticut Market President Bill Tommins says, “We value the role the New Haven Symphony Orchestra plays in driving the cultural and economic vibrancy of our community, and we hope to expand their impact through our support.”
