NHSO POPS! PRESENTS MY IRISH VALENTINE

New Haven, CT, January 19, 2010: Join the New Haven Symphony Orchestra Pops! and Associate Conductor Gerald Steichen for My Irish Valentine, Friday, February 12, 7:30pm, at East Haven High School for an evening of romantic standards. ENCORE PERFORMANCES: Saturday, February 13, 7:30pm, at Hamden Middle School and Sunday, February 14, 3:00pm, at Shelton Intermediate School.

This enchanting program beckons all lovers to what will be a memorable evening. With Irish classics such as Danny Boy coupled with romantic standards by Cole Porter, George Gershwin and others as sung by baritone Michael Zegarski, this concert will certainly help Cupid hit his mark. A special Valentine surprise awaits your sweetheart when Jerry Steichen reads your love dedications from the stage!

Michael Zegarski enjoys an active career in opera, musical theater, and on the concert stage. Among his noteworthy premiere roles are those of Oswaldo Staub in Marie Galante by Kurt Weill, General Kitab in Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Charles Wuorinen at New York City Opera and Wyllis Elliot in Libby Larsen’s Eric Hermannson’s Soul at Opera Omaha. In musical theater Michael was featured in the acclaimed Off- Broadway musical, Blood on the Dining Room Floor by Jonathan Sheffer. He recently appeared in workshop productions of Stephen Schwartz’s first opera, Séance on a Wet Afternoon. Michael has sung with Opera Theater of St. Louis, Minnesota Opera, and Opera North.

As a concert artist he has sung with the Juilliard Symphony, American Symphony Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, and New York City Opera orchestra. He has been featured at Alice Tully Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, and most recently, Joe’s Pub. Regional music theater credits include Hello Dolly, South Pacific, Babes in Arms, Rags, Beggar’s Opera, Anything Goes and H.M.S. Pinafore.
