Chelsea Tipton to Make His Debut as NHSO Principal Pops Conductor
HAMDEN & SHELTON, CT, October 3, 2014- The New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s (NHSO) 2014-2015 Pops Series will open with The Best of Broadway on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:30pm at Hamden Middle School and Sunday, October 12, 2014 at 3:00pm at Shelton Intermediate School. Led by Chelsea Tipton in his debut as NHSO Principal Pops Conductor, the program will feature the NHSO with opera and Broadway stars Carol Dusdieker and Nat Chandler singing show tunes from Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Carousel, Gypsy, South Pacific and more.
American conductor Chelsea Tipton, II has won over audiences and critics alike with his vibrant musicality, accessibility, versatility and extraordinary commitment to education. As a sought after guest conductor, Chelsea has appeared with numerous major orchestras in the U.S., including Cleveland, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburgh, Houston, Atlanta, Indianapolis, New Jersey, Nashville, Hilton Head, and San Antonio, as well as the Brooklyn, Louisiana, and Rochester Philharmonics, and the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana (Palermo) among others.
American actor and singing sensation Nat Chandler enjoys an exciting career on Broadway, in concert, and at the opera. On Broadway he appeared in the title role of The Scarlet Pimpernel and in Children and Art. Other career highlights include Raoul in The Phantom of the Opera directed by Hal Prince, touring the United States opposite Sarah Brightman in The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, and recent performances as King Arthur in Spamalot, Fred/Petruchio in Kiss Me Kate, and Prince Danilo in The Merry Widow. Nat frequently appears in Broadway Pops concerts with leading symphony orchestras around the country.
Carol Dusdieker brings an impressive opera background to the Pops having sung at Opera Cleveland, Des Moines Metro, Glimmerglass, Cincinnati Opera, Cedar Rapids Opera, Arbor Opera Theater, and the Bloomington Early Music Festival Opera. Her most recent Broadway concert credits include performances with the Toledo Symphony, Cedar Rapids Symphony, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Windsor Chamber Orchestra, Heidelberg Concert Chorale, Iowa Chamber Orchestra, and the Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra.
