New Haven, CT September 30, 2010: The NHSO welcomes guest conductor Aldo Sisillo on Thursday, October 21, 7:30pm, at Woolsey Hall for Italian Flair featuring Martucci’s rarity Nocturne and Novelletta, Brahms’ sunny Symphony No. 2 and Schumann’s Piano Concerto a beautiful work featuring internationally-acclaimed pianist Andrew von Oeyen . Italian Conductor Aldo Sisillo, has guest conducted Orchestra Haydn (Bolzano), Orchestra Alessandro Scarlatti (Naples), the Arturo Toscanini dell’Emilia Romagna orchestra, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Bari, the Orchestra Angelicum (Milan), the Istituzione Sinfonica Abruzzese (L’Aquila), the Orchestra Sinfonica di Lecce, the Orchestra Sinfonica di Sanremo, the Liszt Academy (Budapest), the National Theatre in Split (Croatia), and the Festival di Ravello. In 2007 he inaugurated the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Puccini’s birth in Lucca with a new production of Il Trittico. In 2008 he conducted La Traviata for Florida Grand Opera.
Since his debut at age 16 with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Andrew von Oeyen has performed to critical acclaim around the world. Mr. von Oeyen has performed the major concertos of the repertoire—Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Bartok, Barber, Mozart, and Gershwin—with such orchestras as the San Francisco, Cincinnati, Atlanta, Utah, the National Symphony, at the Spoleto Festival USA, and the Bellingham Festival of Music. On July 4, 2009, Mr. von Oeyen was seen with the National Symphony in “A Capitol Fourth,” reaching millions in the PBS live telecast. He is an alumnus of Columbia University and The Juilliard School. Honors include the prestigious Gilmore Young Artist Award (1999) and First Prize in the Leni Fe Bland Foundation National Piano Competition (2001).
The October 21 performance at Woolsey Hall, invites all Greater New Haven grade K-12 students, faculty, and their families to School Night at the Symphony. School Night at the Symphony provides students, teachers, and their families the opportunity to attend the NHSO for FREE.
