Young People’s Concerts: Introduction to the Orchestra

Thousands of students have heard an orchestra for the first time at the NHSO’s Young People’s Concerts! These programs are designed for students ages 8-11, and they are free and open to the public this year at venues in New Haven and Shelton.
At this concert, you will hear all of the different, amazing sounds an orchestra can make, from historic composers like Felix Mendelssohn and Giacomo Rossini, up to living composers of today, like Jessie Montgomery and Gabriella Lena Frank.

You must register for your free tickets through the Symphony’s Box Office. You can register online using the button below or call (203) 787-4282 Monday-Friday from 12-5pm. For larger parties, please call so the box office can sit your group together without “distance” seats in between your party members.

What to Expect
- A concert of instrumental music by a large orchestra conducted by the NHSO’s music director Alasdair Neale.
- The concert will be around 1 hour long. There will be projected imagery on a large screen.
- Audience members of all ages are welcome but the concert will be best experienced by children ages 8-11.

Health & Safety
Although no event can be risk-free during this pandemic, we are taking every precaution possible to ensure the safety of our audience, musicians, and staff. In order to comply with this goal and regulations set forth by local government and our performance venues, we require the following of ALL attendees at this event:
- All audience members including children will be required to present proof of full vaccination or proof of negative Covid test taken within 48 hours prior to the event. (For this performance, that means that the test must have been administered after 1pm on Friday, March 25.)
- Adults will present a photo ID along with their proof of vaccination or negative test results.
- Masks must be worn at all times. Children who are too young to wear a mask will not be permitted to attend.
- If you are experiencing any symptoms of Covid-19, please stay home.
For the safety of all, anyone who is not willing or able to comply with these policies will be required to leave the event at the discretion and request of an NHSO staff member.
