NHSO TO PERFORM REVOLUTIONARY WORKS
BY SCHOENBERG AND BEETHOVEN

New Haven, CT February 24, 2010: Join the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) and Music Director William Boughton on Thursday, March 25, 7:30pm, at Woolsey Hall for Revolution featuring Schoenberg’s emotionally charged Verklärte Nacht (Transfigured Night) and Beethoven’s monumental Symphony No. 3 in Eb Major Op.50, “Eroica”. Encore Performance: Friday, March 26, 8:00pm, Quick Center for the Performing Arts, Fairfield University.

As a musical revolutionary, Schoenberg changed 20th century music with his twelve-tone method. Before this, he wrote one of his earliest compositions, Verklärte Nacht, a melodic and tonal work unlike his later twelve-tone pieces. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, Eroica, influenced an entire generation of music, marking the end of the Classical Era and the beginning of the Romantic Era. Eroica demonstrates Beethoven’s desire for a new, expanded symphonic form which includes music’s ability to convey beliefs, ideas, and emotions.

Tickets for the Woolsey Hall ($10-65) performance can be purchased by contacting the NHSO Box Office at (203) 865-0831, ext. 10 or by visiting newhavensymphony.org. Tickets for the Quick Center ($35 & $45) performance can be purchased through the Quick Center Box Office at (203) 254-4010 or online at quickcenter.com.
