The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) announces the return to indoor orchestra concerts, beginning Sunday, October 3 at 3pm at the Shubert Theatre in downtown New Haven, Connecticut. This concert will be the Symphony’s first return to the stage as a full orchestra since March 2020.
Led by music director Alasdair Neale, the October 3 concert program will feature Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, Coleman’s Fanfare for Uncommon Times, Price’s Ethiopia’s Shadow in America, and Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto with guest soloist Tai Murray. Murray performed Prokofiev’s Second Violin Concerto with the NHSO in March 2019 and is one of the newest members of the Yale School of Music faculty.
Following the October 3 program, the NHSO Pops will return with Principal Pops conductor Chelsea Tipton leading Get Happy! A Judy Garland Tribute on Friday, October 22 at 7:30pm at the Lyman Center at SCSU and Sunday, October 24 at 3pm at Shelton High School.
The Fall season will continue Friday, November 19 at 7:30pm at the Shubert Theatre with Alasdair Neale conducting Brahms’s Symphony No. 1, Tower’s Fanfare for the Uncommon Woman, and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto featuring guest violin soloist Alexi Kenney.
Future concerts, including the Holiday Pops, Handel’s Messiah, and concerts for the winter and spring of 2022, will be announced in coming weeks.
Covid-19 Protocols: All audience members will be required to present a photo ID and proof of vaccination or proof of negative Covid test taken within 48 hours prior to the event. Tickets: Tickets for NHSO members go on sale Monday, September 13 and annual memberships begin at just $5. Tickets for the general public go on sale Monday, September 20. Ticket prices vary by performance and can start as low as $15. Tickets for kids 17 and under are free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
