Led by guest conductor and NHSO Music Director candidate Donato Cabrera, the Jan. 20 program will include Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8, Anna Clyne’s Stride for String Orchestra, Richard Strauss’s Serenade for Winds, and Séjourné’s Concerto for Marimba, featuring NHSO Principal Percussionist Aya Kaminaguchi.
Due to an injury, pianist Joyce Yang has had to withdraw from the Nov. 11 concert at SCSU. Shaham will play Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto on program also featuring Brahms & Coleridge-Taylor.
The Symphony’s SCSU Residency will open October 23 with a program conducted by music director Alasdair Neale and featuring “To Awaken the Sleeper,” NHSO Composer-in-Residence Joel Thompson’s ode to literary giant James Baldwin.
Free, outdoor concerts for kids in May and June will feature the NHSO Brass Quintet and a showing of live animals and animal artifacts from Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo.
