  • New Haven Symphony Orchestra To Perform Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony

    “Your magic reunites that which custom strictly parts; all men become brothers where your gentle wing alights.” The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO), joined by more than 170 singers from the combined Fairfield County Chorale, Hartford Chorale, and Guilford High School Voices, will perform Triumphant Voices: Beethoven’s Ninth on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 7:30pm in Woolsey Hall.

  • NHSO Donates More Than $8,000 to Community Soup Kitchen

    The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) is proud to announce that it has donated proceeds from its December 18 performance of Handel’s Messiah to the Community Soup Kitchen of New Haven. These funds, totaling over $8000, were raised through concert ticket sales, a co-presented Symphony Supper at the Community Soup Kitchen prior to the performance, and in conjunction with program support from the Bank of America.

  • NHSO Pops Swings to Big Band Hits by Gershwin, Mancini and More March 7 & 8

    The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) will swing to the biggest hits of the big band era at Big Band Meets the Symphony on Saturday, March 7 at 2:30pm at Hamden Middle School and Sunday, March 8 at 3:00pm at Shelton Intermediate School. Led by NHSO principal pops conductor Chelsea Tipton, the program will include Henry Mancini’s Moon River and Strings on Fire, W.C. Handy’s St. Louis Blues, Leroy Anderson’s Clarinet Candy featuring the NHSO clarinet section and conductor Chelsea Tipton on clarinet, and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue featuring guest pianist George Lopez.

    To celebrate the romance of this Valentine’s Day inspired program, the NHSO will be hosting a “New Haven is for Lovers” ticket giveaway contest on Facebook. The NHSO is asking the public to submit photos or videos of what they consider to be the most romantic spot in New Haven along with the title of their favorite romantic music – classical or otherwise. Submissions will be accepted starting on February 9 and whoever submits the post with the most likes, comments and shares will receive a pair of free tickets to the February 19 performance of Parfum de la Nuit and a romantic dinner for two. Submissions can be made directly on the NHSO’s facebook page at www.facebook.com/newhavensymphony or by emailing marketing@NewHavenSymphony.org.

  • Love is in the Air! NHSO to Perform Romantic French Music February 19

    The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) will celebrate Valentine’s Day with a program of romantic French music at Parfum de la Nuit on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 7:30pm in Woolsey Hall. Led by guest conductor Ransom Wilson, the program will include Bizet’s Suite from Carmen, Ravel’s Valses Nobles et Sentimentales, Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture, and Canteloube’s Songs of the Auvergne featuring Yale Opera Alumna soprano Amanda Hall.

  • NHSO Kicks Off The New Year with Jupiter's Passion: Mozart Symphony No. 41

    Led by guest conductor Paul Polivnick, the program will feature the NHSO string sections with repertoire including Mozart’s “Jupiter” Symphony No. 41 and Stravinsky’s Concerto in D for Strings, plus Barber’s Violin Concerto and Dvorak’s Romance for Violin & Orchestra featuring guest violinist Hye-Jin Kim.
