The New Haven Symphony Orchestra and Music Director William Boughton are proud to announce their 2009-10 season.

Join the fourth oldest symphony orchestra in the nation, the New Haven Symphony Orchestra on May 14, 2009, for a historic 115th Anniversary Concert, 8:00pm Woolsey Hall. Revel in the exquisite music-making of internationally renowned pianist Angela Hewitt, and bear witness to history as Music Director William Boughton and the NHSO record William Walton’s Symphony No. 1, LIVE, for international release—Spring 2010. Also on the program: Mendelssohn’s Overture the Hebrides and Mozart’s Piano Concerto No 20 in D minor.
 

The New Haven Symphony Orchestra will participate in Orchestras Feeding America, the first national food drive by America’s symphony orchestras. The NHSO’s musicians, staff members and volunteers will collect non-perishable food at its Young People’s Concert on April 1 between 9:00am and noon in the rotunda of Woolsey Hall. Over 2,600 school children are expected to attend a concert of American music as part of the orchestra’s educational programs.  The food collected will be donated to the Connecticut Food Bank.  For information about the types of food that can be accepted go to www.CTfoodbank.org

The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) is proud to announce The 2009 CT Youth Orchestra Festival, Saturday, March 21, from 3pm to 5:30pm and Sunday, March 22, from 11am to 5:30pm at ACES Educational Center for the Arts, New Haven. The Festival provides a rare opportunity for youth orchestras from around Connecticut to gather, perform for each other, learn from special guest artists, and work with young composer Jay Greenberg.

Honoring some America’s greatest composers of the 20th century, the program includes;  Aaron Copland’s Rodeo, Charles Ives’ Variations on America, George Gershwin’s An American in Paris, Rhapsody in Blue featuring NHSO Pianist, William Braun, Samuel Barber’s Knoxville Summer of 1915 featuring soprano Samantha Lane Talmadge, and Leonard Bernstein’s Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
