New Haven Symphony Orchestra Principal Cellist Rebecca Patterson is one of just five orchestra musicians from across the U.S. who will receive Ford Musician Awards for Excellence in Community Service from the League of American Orchestras at the League’s 74th National Conference.
Beginning June 21 on International Make Music Day, 12 pianos painted by local artists and placed in public, outdoor spaces in New Haven, Branford, Guilford, and Madison, Connecticut will become the Free Keys CT Piano Trail.
The New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) announced today that it will continue its popular podcast series, Listen Up!, with a second season beginning Thursday, February 28. Promoted with the tagline “Showing you how to get more out of the music you love,” each episode takes a deeper look at a single element of music across multiple musical genres and unpacks it for listeners so they might better enjoy and understand their favorite music.
DBR will be the featured guest artist for the orchestra’s 87th Annual Young People’s Concerts in late March, and his Hip-Hop Essay Part 1 will be included on the program, To Thee We Sing, on April 4 at Southern Connecticut State University.
The event will celebrate the NHSO’s contributions to the community: artistic excellence, education, innovation, and a storied history – the NHSO is the fourth oldest orchestra in the United States. There will be live music by NHSO musicians and local music students, a cocktail reception, gourmet buffet dinner, interactive music activity stations – including a virtual reality experience and instrument petting zoo– and a live and silent auction.
The New Haven Free Public Library is partnering with New Haven Symphony Orchestra to offer library cardholders the opportunity to attend concerts for free.
