The hints of boldness are scattered throughout the catalog for the New Haven Symphony Orchestra’s 2022 – 23 season.
The Symphony’s SCSU Residency will open October 23 with a program conducted by music director Alasdair Neale and featuring “To Awaken the Sleeper,” NHSO Composer-in-Residence Joel Thompson’s ode to literary giant James Baldwin.
The NHSO has received the largest gift in its history from the estate of James D. English, whose family helped found the Symphony 128 years ago.
Free, outdoor concerts for kids in May and June will feature the NHSO Brass Quintet and a showing of live animals and animal artifacts from Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo.
The residency amplifies the Symphony’s commitment to performing accessible concerts for diverse audiences, collaborating on- and off-stage with community partners, and infusing educational opportunities into every facet of the organization.
The Symphony’s Young People’s Concerts are back and – new this year – completely free of charge.
